The fourth campaign of escavation in Castiglioncello del Trinoro has started today. During this campaign (15 November-10 December) 10 archeologists and a drawer will be daily present on site.
End the escavation of the partialy digged sectors to allow the restoration and consolidation works of the structures will be the goal of this campaign. In the next campaign we'll start the escavation of the south part of the top of the hill to understand the complete extension of the settlement.
During the morning we made a complete cleaning of the escavation; during the afternoon we restart the dig of room 5 (period V-phase 2; XII century). The structure is in the north part of Area 1, close to the defensive wall, using also the tank as outsaide wall.Inside this room, during the previous campaign, the remotion of stone collapses led to point out a dark-brown layer, full of little coals, that can be interpreted as a frequentation tramp, linked to a fireplace.
In a short time the excavation team will be provided with two Apple iPad: our goal is to gradually substitute the traditional paper workbook with the systematic use of this hardware, in order to upgrade directly from the archaeological site nearly all the kinds of documentation.
