Today was the first day of archeological survey at Castiglioncello delTrinoro. The excavation site was divided into two zones. The first area (Area 1) is the highest in the north-east of the yard. It is composed of a circular area, with a diameter of about 15 meters, which are the ruins of a small building built in the twentieth century. This is the highest part of the village. The second area (Area 2) is located south-west. This is a flat, square, about 15 meters high.
We provide to the removal of the layer of humus (U.S. 1) in the 1st The removal was carried out by mechanical means. Below this layer have been so far identified a layer of light brown earth (U.S. 2), which covers the whole area opened up, and two masonry structures (U.S. 3 and 4). These two walls can be seen, for now, to about 1.5 meters long each and are about 60 cm wide. As you can see for now, composed of stones of medium size and bonded together by mortar sand matrix. Being distant and parallel with each other by about 4 meters, we can preliminarily assume that belong to a single building.
Tomorrow is the continuation of the excavation for U.S. 1 (Square 1) where it could not operate Loaders (near the ruins of a small building). Also planned is the opening of the excavation in the area 2 with the removal of the layer of humus.
